Kenya's Angella Okutoyi will dare German Carolina Kuhl in a scintillating first-round clash of the US Open junior girls' singles at the Flushing Meadows in New York on September 4.

According to a draw conducted on Saturday night, the two will face off at court 9 in the round of 64 knockouts.

The Kenyan tennis sensation will be renewing rivalry with her opponent for the second time.

They first met in October 2021 during the JA Cape Town in South Africa where the German won 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.

Okutoyi, 18, heads into the championships high on confidence, having already bagged the Wimbledon and Repentigny doubles titles this year.

She became the first Kenyan to be crowned champion at a Grand Slam event.

On June 20, Okutoyi and her partner Rose Marie Nijkamp from the Netherlands beat Canadians Kayla Cross and Victoria Mboko 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 in the final of the Wimbledon Open doubles Junior Championships at the grass courts of All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Then on September 3, she partnered with Pole Malwina Rowinska to clinch the J1 Repentigny Doubles at Larochelle Park in Canada.

The duo — seeded sixth — rallied from behind to shake off an early scare after crashing 3-2 to fourth seeds German Ella Seidel and Belgian Amelia Waligora in the first set.

However, a dramatic comeback saw them claim an emphatic 6-2 victory in the second set before they sealed the title with a 10-8 win in the tiebreak.

At the 2022 Australian Open, Okutoyi became the first representative of Kenya to win a girls’ junior singles Grand Slam match.

Brit Robin Montgomery is the defending US Open junior girls' singles champion after defeating Kristina Dmitruk from Russia 6–2, 6–4 in the 2021 edition of the competition.
