Three members of a family died Thursday night in a gruesome road accident in Keroka, Kisii county.
Police said a couple and their two-month-old baby perished in the accident while traveling from Sotik to Kisii town.
The accident occurred at a black spot near Kegogi area as the vehicle was negotiating a sharp bend at high speed.
"It appears the driver was trying to overtake when they collided head on," Keroka traffic police boss Osman Hassan said.
The man succumbed at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital while his wife and child died as they were being attended to at Keroka Sub-County hospital.
Their bodies were moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue to await autopsy. They hailed from Amariba in Nyaribari Chache, in Kisii.
Hassan said the couple was returning home after escorting their daughter who was reporting to the Kenya Institute of Medical Training College, Kaptet Campus when the hired car they were travelling in rammed into a school bus.
He said two more people onboard, among them the driver, survived the tragic accident but suffered serious injuries.
They are being attended to at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Hassan asked motorists not to speed at night and to be cautious while navigating black spots.
