Three journalists are among members who will constitute the third Kitui assembly upon resumption.

Former Royal Media Services journalist Muthengi Ndangara of Wiper won the Tharaka MCA seat dethroning Fredrick Nthuri.

He is likely to be joined by a former colleague at the Royal Media Services Jaqueline Kalenga and former county FM radio presenter Rachel Muthoka.

Both of whom have been nominated by political parties to the assembly.

Kalenga of Wiper hails from Kitui East subcounty while Muthoka of UDA comes from Mwingi West.

Both candidates stand a high chance of making it to the Kitui assembly as a top up to meet the constitutional two-thirds gender rule.

Only one woman gained entry into the assembly through election, out of the 39 Kitui MCAs.

Judith Kasyoka Wanza, an independent candidate was elected to represent Nuu after flooring the incumbent Alex Musili.

Although Kitui county has 40 wards, the election for the MCA for Kyome/Thaana did not take place.

One of the candidates, Stanley Muthengi, passed on in a road accident shortly after he presented his nomination papers to IEBC.

With only one woman having been elected to the assembly chances are that majority of political parties’ nominees will most probably all be women in order to meet the gender rule.

The dominant Wiper party has 14 MCAs elected to the Kitui assembly while Narc had seven of their candidates elected as MCAs on August 9.

Nine of the independent MCAs candidates also made it to the assembly.

The UDA party has three elected MCAs thus giving an opening for one nominee. This is that position that Muthoka hopes will go to her.

Other parties like Jubilee, GTAP, CCU, Muungano and CCM that have less than three elected MCAs do not stand any chance of any of their party members being nominated to the Kitui assembly.
