Azimio la Umoja spokesperson Makau Mutua has alleged that they do not recognise William Ruto as the president-elect.

Speaking on Thursday, Makau said he was confident the Azimio coalition won the August 9 election.

"As far as we are concerned there is no valid or legally declared winner of the election. There is no president-elect, perish that thought. We do not recognise that at all," Makau said on Spice FM.

He said Azimio will take legal steps to confirm their victory.

Mutua called on Azimio supporters to stay calm and firm as the coalition is undertaking legal processes.

His remarks come after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto as the president-elect.

The Commission also gazetted Ruto as president-elect and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua as the deputy-president elect.

Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga, however, rejected the results announced by Chebukati, saying that it was null and void.

Raila vowed to file an appeal to the Supreme Court to challenge the results.

Mutua added that Chebukati is not in a position make decisions without the input of all the IEBC commissioners.

"Chebukati does not give himself permission to pronounce on the results of the election. He announces the decision of the commission about the outcome of election. He is a mouthpiece of the commission," he said.

Four IEBC commissioners have distanced themselves from the results released by Chebukati terming them as Opaque.
