The International Commission of Jurists has called on the police to expedite investigations into the murder of IEBC Returning Officer Daniel Musyoka.

The ICJ has further urged the Director of Public Prosecutions to act with urgency on the evidence that will be collected by the Police and Directorate of Criminal Investigation to help the deceased's family get closure.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, commission and the country at large," ICJ said and condemned the murder.

"Every person has the right to life, freedom and security even in the context of elections."

Musyoka's body was found in a thicket on Monday in Mariko near Amboseli National Park, four days after he went missing on August 11 while at work at the East African School of Aviation tallying centre at 9.45am.

Police who visited the scene said he seemed to have been tortured to death. The killers and motive are yet to be established

The family however linked his murder to elections and said he may have been killed for refusing to accept a bribe to tilt the outcome of an election.

On Tuesday, plans were underway to move the body to Nairobi.
