The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has urged the police IG Hillary Mutyambai to speed up the investigation into the death of the Embakasi East Returning Officer Daniel Musyoka.

LSK President Eric Theuri condemned the murder of IEBC officials.

He noted that Musyoka's death is the second election-related death after the 2017 murder of ICT manager Chris Msando.

"We also call on the IG of police to deploy the best investigative resources this country has to unravel the heinous actors responsible for this cruel act," he said while addressing the press on Tuesday.

"Also reassure the country and all IEBC officials that their service to this country does not amount to a death warrant," he added.

While expressing his shock over Musyoka's death, Theuri sends the Society's condolence message to the family and friends of the deceased.

"We wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Daniel Musyoka and assure them that the LSK will follow up on the investigations to ensure full accountability for the senseless and heinous death," he said.

Musyoka went missing on Thursday, August 11, at around 9:45 am.

On Monday, his body was found in a thicket in the Mariko area and taken to Loitokitok Subcounty Hospital mortuary in Kajiado.

Police who visited the scene said he seemed to have been tortured to death.

The investigation into the murder has since been launched.

The motive behind the murder is yet to be established.

At the same time, Theuri said they have trained their lawyers on how to handle election petitions.

"As the Law Society of Kenya, we have over the last four months, extensively trained our members on the handling of election petitions and we believe that we are ready, able and willing to pursue any challenges in court," Theuri said.

He called on all aggrieved parties in the recently concluded elections to keep the peace even as they challenge the results.

"We, therefore, call on any aggrieved parties to reiterate the need for the maintenance of peace and order as they mount legal charge o the results declared by the IEBC."
