Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Tuesday joined other African leaders in congratulating President-elect William Ruto.

Kagame also extended praise to Kenyans for embracing peace during the election period.

"On behalf of the Government and People of Rwanda, I congratulate our Brothers and Sisters, the People of Kenya, for conducting peaceful elections on 9 August 2022. I also congratulate H.E. Dr William Samoei Ruto, the President-Elect," he tweeted.

He further said his government has attached great importance to the good relationship and cooperation between Rwanda and Kenya.

Earlier on Tuesday, Presidents Samia Suluhu (Tanzania) and Kaguta Museveni (Uganda) also congratulated Ruto on his victory.

"I congratulate the people of Kenya on their peaceful general election and the subsequent announcement of Williams Ruto as President-elect," Suluhu said in a tweet.

Museveni said he is willing to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two nations.

"On behalf of all Ugandans, I congratulate Your Excellency William Ruto upon your election as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya," he said.
