The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has lauded leaders who have conceded defeat.

“It is this kind of acceptance that we need moving forward. We commend every leader who has peacefully accepted defeat and those who are seeking legal redress peacefully,” NCIC chairman Samuel Kobia said.

Kobia who addressed the press at his Upper Hill offices on Monday said the nation has relatively been calm and the same needed to continue.

“We must recognise that Kenya achieved elections ‘bila noma’ which was our rallying call over the last year,” he said.

The chairperson urged Kenyans to maintain peace as they await IEBC to declare the winner and accept the results.

“Kenyans must allow any issues that may arise to be addressed by our courts,” Kobia said.

“Lets us allow the process to ventilate any issues that may rise.”

Kobia also called on the poll winner to be noble and reach across the divide to make peace and forge a way forward.

“We ask for the runner-up to be dignified and be treated with decorum. Let us not insult each other or gloat unnecessarily over the others,” he said.

Kobia said even though the nation has been calm and peaceful, there is a need for Kenyans to shun all those who want to peddle fake news and have been throwing the country into a numbers war that is not good.

The chairperson said that each one’s contribution to peace matters just as each vote counts.

“We are all brothers and sisters and Kenya needs us to remain so, no matter our political inclination,” Kobia said.
