Celebrations rock Eldoret, Ruto's Sugoi home after win

Celebrations rocked Eldoret town and President-elect William Ruto's home village of Sugoi after he was declared winner of the just concluded presidential elections.

The celebrations brought the region to a standstill as thousands of his supporters took to the streets of Eldoret chanting songs and slogans to celebrate Ruto's win.

The residents had waited all day watching proceedings at the Bomas of Kenya on a giant TV screens along Uganda road in Eldoret.

The road had been closed all day as many residents waited for the presidential results to be announced.

"This is one of the best days of my life because as it has been said I feel freedom has arrived," said a resident Jane Kiptoo.

Many residents of Sugoi were seen dashing to the home of the president elect which is located about 30 kilometers from town along Eldoret-Webuye highway.

Security was quickly enhanced at the home where workers and visitors joined in the celebrations.

Residents said they were overjoyed that their son had been elected president despite the many challenges he had gone through in politics.

"He has struggled from an ordinary person and we thank God that finally he has made it to the top," said another resident Paul Kipyego.

Most residents of Eldoret said they would celebrate for several days and thank God for the victory.

In Eldoret town the residents waved twigs and UDA campaign colours to cap the celebrations.

Some of the residents however condemned the chaos witnessed at the Bomas of Kenya  during announcement of the results.

Similar celebrations also rocked major towns in the region including Kapsabet, Iten, Kapsowar and Kabarnet among others.
