Wamatangi wins Kiambu governor seat as Wamuratha bags woman rep

UDA party has swept clean all top seats county seats in Kiambu county.

Senator Kimani Wamatangi is now the governor-elect.

The senate seat was won by Karungo Thangwa while Ann Wamuratha bagged the Woman representative seat.

The three were declared winners at the Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology.

Wamatangi garnered 348,371 votes to be crowned governor while Patrick Wainaina Wa Jungle had 273,361.

Outgoing governor James Nyoro had 99,562 votes while William Kabogo scored 106,980 votes.

Moses Kuria was among the last with 24,512 votes.

Already, Kuria has conceded defeat while Wainaina Jungle and Nyoro have vowed to file a petition in court to challenge Wamatangi win.

William Kabogo who was seeking a come back hasn't issued a statement on the direction he might take.

Addressing the media after he was awarded a certificate, Wamatangi thanked all the people who voted for him.

He said he will work to transform the lives of the people of Kiambu.

He said that the unity of the UDA party made them win the seat as it was well coordinated.

"I honour the trust the people of Kiambu have in me and I will make sure that I will make it great," he said.

He said that he will initiate development projects that would transform the livelihood of the people of Kiambu.

"I would like to thank the UDA fraternity and the entire people of Kiambu for giving me an opportunity to serve them," he said.

Wamatangi congratulated his competitors and vowed to work together and make Kiambu great.

"I would like to welcome my worthy competitors to join me and build Kiambu," he said.

He expressed confidence that their presidential candidate William Ruto will emerge as the victor in the presidential race.

Before contesting for governor, he served as Kiambu senator for two consecutive terms under the Jubilee party.

They were accompanied by Thika town MP-elect Alice Ngang'a AND Elijah Njoroge Alias Kururia (Gatundu North)

Thangwa was declared the winner after scooping 579411 against his rival George Mara who had 112,304 votes.

Thangwa thanked the people of Kiambu for giving him an appointment to serve them.

"I won't let our people down and I promise to deliver," he said.

Kiambu women representative Ann Wamuratha was declared the winner with 405492.

She said that she will serve the people of Kiambu well even as she thanked them for trusting her to lead.
