Only four out of 40 Kitui MCAs retained seats

The four who retained their seats include Stephen Ileve Katana, Nguutani MCA who got 3,110 votes.

36 out of 40 MCAs in Kitui county have been sent home in just concluded General elections.

The four who retained their seats include Stephen Ileve Katana, Nguutani MCA who got 3,110 votes. He vied as an independent candidate.

Others are Alex Nganga of Miambani, the Minority leader (NARC), David Masaku, Mutomo Ward (Jubilee Party),and Sylvester Munyalo, Deputy Minority Leader from Matinyani Ward (NARC).

In 2017, four MCAs were elected under the Wiper ticket but in this year's general election, the Wiper party has secured only two seats.

In Kivou ward, Sammy Munyithya clinched the seat after garnering 2,751 votes while Benard Sila of Mwingi Central ward was also elected after getting 3,404 votes on Wiper party ticket.

Mwingi which has three constituencies- Mwingi North, Central and West, most MCAs were sent home.

No MCA was elected in Mwingi Central constituency. The constituency has 6 wards.

In all the other four wards, there are three MCAs who were elected on an independent ticket and one on Narc Party.

They include; Judith Wanza of Nuu, Cornelius Ngumbau of Mui and Joseph Kasungi of Waita ward. In Nguni, the MCA elect is Jeremiah Mutua, under the Narc party.

In Ngomeni ward, the MCA electNzungi Ngwele vied on an independent ticket while in Mumoni ward, the MCA elect, Titus Kasinga is under the umbrella of CCU.

In Mwingi West which has four wards, only Nguutani ward MCA managed to retain his seat.

All the MCAs in the four wards were elected in 2017 under the Wiper party but as of now, only two were elected under the Wiper party which has its dominance in the Ukambani region.

Harrison Maluki of Migwani and Antony Musyoka of Kiomo Kyethani are the MCAs elected under the Wiper party.

In Kyome Thaana, elections of the MCAs have not taken place following the death of Stanley Muthengi, who died shortly after being cleared by IEBC in early June to vie for the seat under the Tujibebe party.

Kitui's Assembly Majority leader Peter Mwikya Kilonzo representing Athi ward also lost to Musyoka Kieti of NARC.

Kitui's Majority Chief Whip Stephen Musili of Kyuso lost during Wiper party nominations and didn't defend his seat in general elections.

The new Kyuso MCA is Munyoki Mwinzi who was a nominated MCA in 2017 and was elected under the Wiper party.
