Ruto wins Baringo Central presidential vote

The DP garnered 33, 162 votes against Raila's 1,656.

UDA presidential candidate William Ruto has won the vote in Baringo Central constituency in the final results announced by the IEBC.

Commission chairperson Wafula Chebukati said the DP got 33, 162 votes against his main challenger Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition who managed Raila 1,656 votes. 

Roots Party candidate George Wajackoyah got 62 votes while Agano Party's David Waihiga managed 26 votes. 

While declaring the results shortly after midnight Thursday, Chebukarti said there were 45, 949 registered voters in Baringo constituency.

He said total cast votes during the August 9 general election were 34, 906 while 168 were rejected ballots. 

Baringo became the second constituency whose results the commission finalised verification.

The first was Webuye East where Ruto also won with 16, 412 votes against Raila's 13, 720 votes.

Results from all the 290 constituencies plus the diaspora vote must be verified before the commission can declare winner of the presidential race.

The law requires that the commission makes the declaration seven days from the day voting closed.
