At least two presiding officers have been arrested by police officers for allegedly engaging in electoral malpractice at the Kenya School of Government in Matuga sub-county.

They were from Vuga primary polling stations.

The two were arrested after being accused of conspiring to alter the outcome of the votes' results

According to sources, the duo were found in possession of voting material and KIEMs kits behind the formal tallying centre.

The police who were manning the area responded swiftly and apprehended the two after some candidates complained.

Matuga Parliamentary seat candidate Hassan Mwanyoha alleged that the entire voting process was marred by injustices requiring it to be halted until further legal action is taken.

Speaking while addressing the county police commander Josphat Kinyua, Mwanyoha said they no longer have faith in the exercise since it was hit by injustices from day one.

"Presiding officers were denying agents access to polling centres and witnessing the voting exercise. That's where the whole game started," he said.

However, Kinyua questioned why Mwanyoha didn't lodge his complaints early enough.

Kwale senatorial candidate Salim Mwadumbo said there are several incidences where ballot boxes were not sealed jeopardizing the electoral exercise.

He said some agents were denied the opportunity to verify the Forms 34A, raising suspicions about the credibility of the elections.

"IEBC seems to be compromised because we have submitted many of our complaints but no actions taken so far," he said.

Mwadumbo said as candidates they won't accept the results until the issue is resolved.

Matuga constituency returning officer Abdallah Chikophe admitted having received complaints that some presiding officers were tampering with the election results.

Chikophe said action was taken but the agents and complainants were unable to prove their accusations.

"The presiding officer was indeed found outside the tallying centre with Forms 34A which was slightly taken out from the envelope but it wasn't tampered with and I asked the agents if we can verify in the system but they refused," he said.

Chikophe said when they tried to confront the presiding officers, one of them had a KIEMs kit.

He said because of misunderstanding chaos erupted and it is when he decided to call the police.

Meanwhile, Kinyua said the two suspects are in police custody for interrogations.

He, however, said the voting exercise remains to be credible and there is transparency to ensure a free and fair election.
