Ruto finally gets first MP seat in Nairobi

Mejjadonk, a close ally of DP Ruto, is UDA candidate to be declared winner.

The Kenya Kwanza Coalition has clinched its first seat in Nairobi after Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru was re-elected.

He was facing main opposition from Jubilee's Samuel Mwangi who is Kayole North current MCA.

Gathiru popularly known Mejjadonk contested on the UDA ticket and garnered 48,277 votes beating Mwangi who got 29,375 votes.

Mwangi had conceded defeat on Wednesday before the official winner was declared.

At the time of his concession, preliminary results at the Komarock School tallying centre showed that incumbent MP Benjamin Gathiru was leading the race with 7,000 votes against Mwangi's 4,000 votes

Embakasi Central has recorded 145,892 numbers of registered voters compared to 131,991 in 2017.

The sub-county has five wards; Matopeni/Spring Valley, Komarock, Kayole North, Kayole Central and Kayole South.

Mejjadonk, a close ally of DP Ruto, is the first United Democratic Alliance ( UDA) candidate in Nairobi to be declared the winner.

His counterparts George Theuri (Embakasi West), Nixon Korir (Lang'ata) and John Kiarie (Dagoretti South) have lost their seats, according to provisional results.

Although the IEBC is yet to make an official declaration, Theuri and Korir have already conceded defeat.

They conceded on Wednesday morning, congratulating their opponents from Azimio.

Nairobi has 17 sub-counties and 85 wards. As per the 2019 population and housing census, Nairobi had 4,397,073 million residents.
