A non-ODM candidate has won in Siaya county, an ODM sronghold.

David Ochieng' on Wednesday night was declared the MP-elect for Ugenya constituency.

He garnered 25,520 votes to beat ODM's Daniel Odhiambo who got 22,828.

Ochieng' was running on his own party, the Movement for Democracy and Growth.

In the 2019 by election, Ochieng' defeated ODM's Christopher Karan to clinch the seat.

Ugenya is the home of ODM's Siaya governor candidate James Orengo and ODM boss Raila Odinga.

Ochieng's ability to retain his seat is no mean fete.

He withstood the clamour for ODM six-piece voting in which a number of non-ODM contenders went down the drain.

Ugenya has 69,027 registered voters.
