The National Police Service (NPS) on Thursday dismissed as old a viral video clip of two General Service Unity officers assaulting two youths.

The Service said the video is of a past event even as it condemned any unpleasant police confrontation.

"We have reviewed the clip, and wish to state that whereas the action of the police seems out of line with operational policy and expected practice, the incident, which is from the past, is not related to the ongoing 2022 general election as assumed," NPS tweeted.

It said it still carries out the internal review performance to ensure its members uphold human rights.

"As a protector of human rights, NPS continues to review our internal performance to reflect the expectation of the public in line with democratic policing ideals and our corporate vision and mission of professionalism, and responsiveness to our clients."

The video shows six GSU officers roughing up two young men, in a secluded alley.

One of the youths is lying on his stomach as the officers beat him up, while the other is manhandled and forced to lie down as they cane him.

He can be heard screaming in pain.
