Former Bomet governor Isaac Ruto is hospitalized at Nairobi Hospital.

It was confirmed by his political party Chama Cha Mashinani Secretary General Albert Kochei through a statement.

"I wish to notify members of the public, that Isaac Ruto fell ill on August 9 and was airlifted to Nairobi hospital by Amref Flying Doctors," read part of the statement.

"He has been unwell for the past one week due to acute flu which necessitated immediate evacuation from Bomet  for thorough medical attention."

He however said the doctor's report indicates that he is on a road to recovery and is expected to be discharged.

"We regret that he is not able to be with his supporters during this crucial moment of vote counting, he wishes to assure us that he will be back soon."

"He wishes to thank his family and supporters for their moral support and in a special way thank Amref Flying Doctors for their prompt evacuation response."
