Seven die in Samburu crash en route to celebrate election win

The group was going to meet an MCA-elect at Leerata when their vehicle swerved off the road

At least seven people were Wednesday killed in an accident at Longelded in Samburu East along the Isiolo-Moyale highway.

Police said seven others were injured after a vehicle they were travelling in crashed.

The group was en route to meet an MCA-elect at Leerata for celebrations when their vehicle swerved off the road and rolled near Kalama Community Conservancy killing the seven on the spot.

Samburu East deputy police commander Juma Boy said the injured were treated at a local health facility.

He said preliminary reports show the majority of the victims were from Lorubae within Archers Post and were to meet the politician who had been elected for celebrations when the accident occurred.

Witnesses said the vehicle was speeding.

Police said they had launched investigations to establish what led to the incident.
