Persons with disability in Kisii have urged the government to protect them during and after the elections.

The PLDs said they suffer the brunt if elections are not conducted in a transparent manner.

Speaking after casting their votes at various polling stations in Nyaribari Chache constituency, they said there was a need for peaceful election.

Hellen Kwamboka and Oyagi Sangara said that violence will not take the country anywhere.

"I am urging the government to protect us during and after the elections," Kwamboka said after casting her vote at Kiogoro tea buying centre on Tuesday.

She said that elections will pass but the country will remain.

"Peace will enable the country move in terms of development. I urge all Kenyans to shun leaders who incite them," she said.

Sagara called for a peaceful transition after announcement of results by the IEBC.

"There is nothing good like a peaceful transition. I expect those contesting for presidency to accept defeat," Sagara said.

Meanwhile a number of polling stations in the area opened on time.

The Star visited a number of the stations including, Amariba, Nyabioto Primary, Nyangogwa and Kiogoro buying centres and Nyakegogi Primary in Bobasi.

Speaking after casting his vote at Amariba, area MP Richard Tong'i expressed optimism that he will be reelected to finish projects he initiated.

He called on the youth to turn out in large numbers and vote for a leader who will fight for their interests.

"I am impressed with the turnout in many centres but what I realised is that many of those in the queues were the elderly," Tong'i said.

"Youths have the tendency off thronging polling stations at the last minute. They need to change this because they are the ones who complaint that they locked out," the legislator said.

Zaheer Jhanda, who visited various polling stations, told Tong'i to prepare to go home because Nyaribari people are for change.
