Police are holding an IEBC polling clerk over alleged electoral malpractice in Machakos county.
County police commander Issa Mohammud said the clerk was arrested for issuing more polling papers to a voter at the Kyumbi polling station in Mavoko constituency on Tuesday.
Mohammud said apart from the incident, the voting exercise was going on well without any other cases across the county.
He dismissed claims that there were ballot papers that had been found outside a polling station in Muthwani ward, Mavoko subcounty.
"There is no problem at Muthwani. Kyumbi had problems, a clerk issued excess ballot papers to a voter. We have arrested him and the matter is being handled by the DCI," Mohammud said.
Mohammud said the suspect will be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
The police boss spoke to the Star on phone on Tuesday. He said the clerk issued two more ballot papers to the voter.
"The clerk issued eight ballot papers instead of six," Mohammud said.
The papers issued in excess were for the governor and woman representative positions.
Chama Cha Uzalendo leader and Machakos governor candidate Nzioka Waita decried high cases of electoral malpractices across the county.
Waita claimed there were incidences of voter bribery by certain politicians in Mavoko, Mwala and Matungulu constituencies.
He said some ballot papers were found outside a polling station at Muthwani ward in Mavoko constituency.
"The voting exercise started well in the morning. The process was smooth and well in most polling stations across the county," he said.
"There were issues at Muthwani ward in Joska where ballot papers were found outside a polling station. Police are investigating the incident."
Waita said the excise was slow at Kinanie Primary School polling centre due to slow BVR kits.
"People are queuing for long at Kinanie Primary School polling station due to slow BVR kits. voters tired even before they voted," Waita said.
He said there were also reported cases of voter bribery in Matungulu and Kangundo constituencies.
Mohammud, however, said they were alert and monitoring all the polling stations across the county.
