Deputy President William Ruto has dared the government to block his final mega rally at Nyayo Stadium.

Speaking at his Karen residence on Thursday, the second in command said his Kenya Kwanza-led coalition will have its rally because they paid for the venue.

'We are preparing to have the meeting at the Nyayo Stadium and if they lock us out, we will still have the meeting," Ruto added.

This was after he revealed that the government was planning to block him from holding his final rally in Mombasa on Thursday afternoon.

Ruto alleged his rally was to be cancelled because President Uhuru Kenyatta is in Mombasa.

He termed the move as ridiculous, arguing that the president presence in Mombasa is not a justifiable reason.

"How ridiculous can that be, and so if the president is in Mombasa, we can't have the meeting at Tononoka? Surely," Ruto added.

It is a wait-and-see whether Ruto will hold his rally as planned in Mombasa or will bow out.

Ruto has faced challenges while planning for his final rally as  Kenya heads to the ballot next week on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

When he announced plans of having his final rally, it was announced that Nyayo stadium was unavailable while at the same time Ruto's main rival Raila Odinga also planned to hold his last rally at the same venue.

Sports Kenya said Kasarani stadium will be used for peace prayers that will take place between August 5 and August 7.

Some of the Kenya Kwanza coalition leaders  had threatened to hold the final rally within Nairobi's Central Business District if the government will block them from Nyayo Stadium

However, the Court on Thursday temporarily issued an order for him to hold his final rally at Nyayo National Stadium this weekend

The order issued by Justice Joseph Sergon in a case filed by UDA secretary general Veronica Maina stands, pending the hearing and determination of the case Thursday afternoon.
