Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has claimed that Roots Party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah asked him to be the party's spokesperson.

The senator who was speaking in an interview on KTN News on Tuesday said Wajackoyah offered him that role three weeks ago.

"Just recently, about three weeks ago, he asked me to take the position which I turned down," he said.

The senator, however, did not reveal why he turned down the offer.

Wajackoyah appointed comedian Wilson Muirani, popularly known as Jaymo Ule Msee, as his campaign spokesperson last month.

Mwaura, however, commended the Roots party manifesto on cultivating marijuana for export.

"Wajackoyah has helped us discuss marijuana in ways that we have never done before since it has been proposed to parliament before," he said.

He added that the marijuana subject has been regarded as a difficult topic that would not be addressed in the public domain.

Mwaura said there have been proposed bills for debate and have been turned down on several instances.

Wajackoyah had proposed legalizing marijuana if he wins the top office on August 9.

The Root's candidate said he will have it grown in the country for export and the proceeds to benefit Kenyans.

"The late Kibira MP Ken Okoth had proposed the issue of marijuana several times in the National Assembly, but was turned down," Mwaura added.

He noted that some of the top politicians have also been pushing for the same discussion but their efforts have been in vain.
