Nairobi Senatorial candidate Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has claimed that the formation of coalitions will be the ‘lucky card’ for many candidates in next week’s polls.

She explained that many voters have started to adopt the ‘six-piece’ concept to ensure their preferred coalition gets the majority of elective seats.

"A few weeks ago, there were no signs that people would vote in six-piece. In some places, the people told me that while initially, they would only vote for me, they would now back the entire party line up," Wanjiru said.

Kenya Kwanza and Azimio La Umoja are the leading coalitions with Deputy President William Ruto and Raila Odinga as their presidential candidates respectively.

Speaking during an interview on Monday, the former Starehe Mp said that party politics have also come out strongly especially during the campaigns.

When people go out and campaign together, the crowd start looking at the whole team. There could be one or two that they don’t agree with, but for the sake of others we will do party politics,” Wanjiru added.

Going further, Bishop Wanjiru argued that voters should be guided by track record and integrity regardless of their political affiliation.

Surprisingly, she revealed that she wouldn’t vote for anyone with integrity issues even if they belonged to UDA party, of which she is a member.

Even in my party (UDA), there are people I cannot vote for. They all know my stand, if someone has a questionable character or has zero service delivery track record, I Margaret Wanjiru cannot be part of their team,” Wanjiru added.

Nevertheless, she called on voters not to re-elect leaders who failed to deliver 80-85 percent of their pledges in their first terms.

Bishop Wanjiru joined the Deputy President led UDA party and expressed confidence that she would become Nairobi’s first elected female governor.

However, her dreams appeared to be shuttered when Musalia Mudavadi threw his support beahind Ruto , bringing in the Johnson Sakaja factor who was also eyeing the Nairobi Governor ‘s seat.

On April9, 2022, DP Ruto announced that the Nairobi Senator will be the UDA and Kenya Kwanza candidare after ‘sweet talking’ Bishop Wanjiru to drop her bid for Sakaja.

Wanjiru had been a loyal follower of Ruto from the moment the Hustler movement wave began in 2020 but she stepped down in favour of Sakaja.

We have identified a team that will give us the best prospects in Nairobi, hence the Kenya Kwanza team will be fielding Sakaja as governor candidate,” the DP announced.

She is now UDA’s Senatorial candidate for Nairobi facing Azimio la Umoja’s Edwin Sifuna for the position.
