MSANDO MURDER

Sabina Chege's friends tipped us about Msando's car - Moses Kuria

"Both of us recorded statements with DCI Nairobi Area," Kuria said.

In Summary

• Kuria said they received the information after they had come from a campaign in Murang'a in 2017.

• He, however, questioned why it has to be him who has to always answer questions on the same, despite him and Sabina recording statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria now says that it was Sabina Chege's friends who tipped them on the whereabouts of the slain IEBC IT guru Chris Msando.

In a statement, Kuria said they received the information after they had come from a campaign in Murang'a in 2017.

He, however, questioned why it has to be him who has to always answer questions on the same, despite him and Sabina recording statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

"The night we found Musando's vehicle at Roysambu was after we had come from Muranga campaigning for Uhuru Kenyatta with Sabina Chege. In fact, we were tipped off by her friends. Both of us recorded statements with DCI in Nairobi Area. How come no one ever asks her or Uhuru who killed him (Msando)?" he posed.

His reaction came after NTV ran an exclusive feature on how investigations into the murder of the ICT manager had come to a dead end, five years later.

Msando, who was in charge of the ICT at the electoral body, went missing and his body was later found at the City Mortuary.

His body was said to have been checked in on July 29, 2017.

Kuria was among the first individuals who found Msando's vehicle in Roysambu, hours after he went missing.

Msando's body was found four days later in a thicket in Kikuyu alongside the remains of a young lady, who was later identified as Carol Ngumbu.

He had only been in the job for two months after his predecessor was suspended for refusing to cooperate with an audit firm tasked with cleaning the voters' register.

Msando's murder came just days before August 8, 2017, general elections which he had expressed confidence would not be rigged because the electronic voting system he had helped develop could not be hacked.

Before Msando's body was found, the Gatundu South MP had in a post on Facebook referred to Msando as "an idiot having a good time with a lady" when his car was found in Roysambu.

He has since deleted the post that caused an uproar from Kenyans, especially the opposition led by Raila Odinga at the time.

Kuria, later on, called a press conference and said that he wanted the opposition to stop associating him with the murder of Msando.

He added that they called the OCPD of Kasarani police station to tell him that a car said to be missing had been found, before they went to Roysambu.

"What we have encountered is a daily accusation and we are human. I'm a leader and a parent and I want this statement to stop any further association of myself to this issue," Kuria said.
