President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans to be careful not to elect a leader who does not have the country's best interest at heart.

Uhuru said Kenyans should not bungle their future at the last minute by voting in a thug.

Speaking when he was launching a dam in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, he asked the region not to listen to empty rhetoric.

"Restrain yourselves from electing a thief, I don't want to hear you crying and regretting. There are people who have funny stories but they are as sweet as honey and so convincing, but they are poison," he said.

Uhuru asked the young men who are the leaders of tomorrow, to know what they want and what is of help to them and what will change the country.

"Young men, we will leave this country to you. Ask yourselves if you have seen a country which has been transformed by wheelbarrows. Do you want wheelbarrows or ways you can take your children to school? If you want to push wheelbarrows it's okay," he said.

Uhuru further said that the work he has done during the ten years of his tenure is evident.

He said those who are saying he has not worked should check the projects he started and developed.

"There are people who only know insults, instead of us coming together and working and bringing peace. They have been saying there is no work done. Has this dam built itself? Did the roads build themselves? Even where people thought electricity won't reach, it reached, did it go there by itself?" he asked.

He then drummed up support for Azimio presidential running mate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua.
