Officials from the Wiper party have declared their support for Azimio governor candidate and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir.
On Friday, Wiper party leaders rejected calls to support former Senator Hassan Omar under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate.
Sheikh Omar Twaha, Wiper party religious affairs secretary, and former Wiper chair for Changamwe Solomon Musyoka said they will back Nassir.
“The best option for us is now to support Abdulswamad because he is in Azimio where our party belongs," Solomon told the Standard.
Sonko had on Thursday lost his court case and was barred from contesting in the coming elections as the Mombasa governor.
He had petitioned the High Court to compel the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to include him on the ballot
He demanded the IEBC allow his running mate Ali Mbogo to vie for the governor seat instead.
“It’s not about Sonko. Clear Ali Mbogo and let him be on the ballot, failure to which we shall support Hassan Omar. Take this to the bank,” he said.
The former Nairobi governor on Saturday ditched Azimio for Kenya Kwanza.
On Facebook, the Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate William Ruto welcomed Sonko to the party.
"We welcome Mike Sonko to Kenya Kwanza, the winning team," Ruto wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
