Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has announced it will receive the last consignment of ballot papers on August 3.

The commission had earlier anticipated that the final batch of presidential materials would arrive this Friday.

In a joint statement from a delegation of 13 members that travelled to Greece to witness the printing, the team attributed this delay to pending court cases.

The group which included religious leaders, representatives of presidential candidates, civil society representatives, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, the Political Parties Liaison Committee and the Media Council of Kenya arrived in the country on Wednesday morning.

"The team takes note of the printer's concern, especially the court ruling that delayed the printing schedule," said Fr. Joseph Mutie, chair of the inter-religious Council of Kenya.

Those present to receive the ballot papers at the airport were the commission's vice chairperson Juliana Cherera and commissioners Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyang'aya and Irene Masit.

Kenya Kwanza was represented by UDA party secretary general Veronica Maina and Anthony Mwaura while lawyer Paul Mwangi represented the Azimio coalition.

Agency's chairperson Wafula Chebukati was conspicuously missing during the event.

A total of 225 pallets of the papers were received.

One pallet consists of 54 boxes, with one box carrying ballot materials which include a manual register and posters for a single polling station.

The agency at the same time stated that there are a total of 65.2 million ballots in its warehouses out of the 132 million.

The materials, it said, are contained in 143,821 boxes and wrapped in 1,994 pallets.
