Stop using debate to demean Raila, Ruto told

Say issues to do with integrity and corruption should be part of the debate.

Azimio la Umoja candidates in Trans Nzoia have urged Deputy President William Ruto to stop attacking Raila Odinga for opting to skip the presidential debate.

 The candidates, led by county assembly speaker Joshua Werunga, defended Raila’s move to boycott the debate, saying issues to do with integrity and corruption should be part of the debate.

Werunga spoke to the Star at Kitale Nature Conservancy on Tuesday.

 ODM Endebess MP candidate Ainea Moses Masinde said organisers of the debate should have focused on the real issues affecting Kenyans.

"Most Kenyans are interested in knowing how one plans to handle  integrity and involvement in graft," he said.

 Endebess independent candidate Pius Gumo said Kenyans want three issues of corruption, integrity and governance tackled.

“If the committee does not allow a discussion on how to tackle graft, governance and integrity then the debate loses meaning," he said. 

Former Rift Valley regional commissioner George Natembeya, who is Trans Nzoia governor candidate, exuded confidence that Raila will emerge the winner on August 9.
