Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate William Ruto on Monday vowed to complete the construction of the Arror and Kimwarer dams if elected on August 9.

"With God's grace, come August 9, we will continue the construction of the two dams. These projects will help the residents get water for their livestock, irrigation and generation of electricity," he said.

Ruto spoke during a campaign rally in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The DP asked those who have issues with the dams to present them.

"What happened was political conmanship. If elected, I will continue with the project," Ruto added.

His remarks come a  week after the Director of Public Prosecutions said he never received evidence of Ruto's involvement in the dams scandal.

"As far as I am concerned and from where I am sitting, no evidence has been brought against him," he said.

Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga has numerous times claimed that Ruto and his allies halted the multi-billion shillings project.

On Thursday, while campaigning in the Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot-Baringo counties, Raila also promised to complete the construction of the dams.

"We will construct Arror and Kimwarer as well as Muruny Siyoi dam so that there is enough water in the region for the residents, their cattle and irrigation," he said.

The Arror-Kimwarer case is still ongoing, with the former Treasury CS Henry Rotich facing charges alone.

On May 26, 2022 Rotich was charged afresh as the prosecution removed the names of former Principal Secretaries Kamau Thugge and Susan Koech who had been charged with him.
