A Nairobi court has directed that Francis Onsiako Otindo be sent back to Emuhaya in Vihiga County.

This was after he pleaded guilty to cutting trees in Ngong Forest for domestic use.

The suspect is said to have committed the offence on July 20 on Ngong Road in Langata Sub-county within Nairobi County.

The charge sheet shows that the man was found with 20 Eucalyptus saligna trees without a licence from the Kenya Forest Service.

Court prosecutors Denis Muindi and Brenda Maiyo said the man was a frequent offender.

They jointly informed the court that on February 2, 2021, the accused person was charged with the same offence and was fined Sh50,000 by the same court and was informed that the accused person had done the same offence on July 7, 2019, where he was fined again Sh50,000 or serve three months in jail.

The accused person said he cuts trees and sells them so that he can get money to buy food.

Kibera senior principal magistrate Monica Maroro after listening to the accused person asked him where he hails from.

The man said that he comes from Emuhaya in Vihiga.

"I come from Emuhaya in Vihiga, I steal trees and sell them so that I can buy food, medicines and other things," he said.

Maroro ordered that he be sent back to Emuhaya next week.

"No need of jailing this man as it will not help, he better goes home," said Maroro.
