Tennis sensation Angela Okutoyi has received a boost after Tech solutions firms Vaspro offered her financial assistance.
The firm on Wednesday awarded Okutoyi Sh500,000 as appreciation for putting Kenya on the world map, in the tennis sport.
Speaking to during the awarding ceremony, Vaspro business development manager Evans Mwika said the money will help Okutoyi in further shaping her career.
"We are proud to associate ourselves with Angela who has proved beyond all means that Kenya can conquer the world in the field of tennis, her character, resilience, endurance and performance is aligned with our core values," he said.
Angela Okutoyi who received the sum promised to continue making the country proud in the Tennis courts.
"The financial support will see me through my young tennis career as I aim for the stars and I promise you all today there is more to come," she said.
Okutoyi, 18, made history by becoming the first Kenyan woman to reach a Wimbledon final.
She also became the first Kenyan to win an Australian open junior’s match proceeding to the third round in a grand slam.
Okutoyi teamed up with Dutch Rose Nijkamp to clinch the Wimbledon Junior Tennis doubles title.
The duo beat the Canadian pair of Kayla Cross and Victoria Mboko 3-6 6-4 11-9.
Orphaned at birth, Okutoyi had to overcome challenges in order to put her mark on the court.
She was introduced to the game at an orphanage in Limuru where she grew up before later moving in with her grandmother.
