•Jabu said when a politician calls for six-piece voting it means he was not ready to form a coalition with other political parties.
•He also said the court cases against Sonko were political but assured Mombasa residents that he would be on the ballot.
The Wiper Party officials in Mombasa are opposed to six-piece voting pattern fronted by the ODM party ahead of the August 9 polls.
The officials said even though they are members of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance, it was wrong for the ODM leadership to tell people to only vote for ODM candidates.
Led by Sheikh Twaha Jabu, Wiper Party Chairman in Mombasa and the party’s NEC member, the leaders said they are confident that former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko will be in the race for Mombasa governor on August 9.
He also said the court cases against Sonko were political but assured Mombasa residents that he would be on the ballot.
“We are in Azimio and we support Raila Odinga as our president but within the coalition, we are opposed to any politician telling people to embrace six-piece voting because the coalition was built by many political parties,” he said.
Jabu said when politicians call for a six-piece voting pattern, it means they are not ready to form a coalition with other political parties.
He also drummed up support for Sonko, saying they are optimistic that he will overcome his troubles and will be in the race.
“Sonko is talented. I have faith that even if he comes to Kilifi you will vote him in as the Governor, what matters is development,” he said.
He sad this even as IEBC revoked Mike Sonko's clearance to vie for Mombasa Governor on Monday.
The commission said the decision had been arrived at following the Apex court's verdict that he could not hold any public office following his impeachment.
On his part, Idris Maalim, Wiper party Candidate for the Gongoni Ward seat, called on the youth to desist from being used by politicians for personal gains, saying it would not help them get the right leadership.
“Elections come and go, I am pleading with you to understand that politicians are all the same and do not fight because of us,” he said.
The youthful candidate also called on residents of Magarini to vote for Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the August polls.
