UDA deputy president candidate Rigathi Gachagua has arrived at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa for the presidential debate set to kick off at 8 pm Tuesday.

Rigathi arrived accompanied by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Gatundu South’s Moses Kuria and Kenya Kwanza Campaign Secretariat spokesperson Hussein Mohamed.

Gachagua arrived shortly past 7 pm. He is the running mate of presidential candidate William Ruto.

The deputy presidential candidate said he looked forward to passing the Hustler’s message to the group of Kenyans who don’t attend rallies.

“I feel good because I will have an opportunity to speak with many Kenyans who don’t have time to come to public rallies,” he said.

Rigathi said he wished to use the debate to reach out to those who are busy working or don’t have time to attend public rallies where the UDA agenda has been extensively explained.

“I am here to speak to people who don’t have to attend our rallies where we are explaining to the people why they should give Dr Ruto and me a chance to change their lives, to restore their dignity, to give them hope and inspire them,” he said.

The Mathira MP said he hoped the moderators would give them a fair chance to explain the Kenya Kwanza agenda to Kenyans.

"I trust the moderators will give us the chance to highlight our plan to change the fortunes of Kenyans," he said.

Journalists Sophia Wanuna (KTN) and James Smart (NTV) will moderate the debate.

The panel discussions prior and after will be moderated by Citizen TV anchor and presenter Trevor Ombija.

Gachagua and Azimio's presidential running mate Martha Karua will battle out in the second phase of the debate.
