A police officer was killed in an accident along Waiyaki Way, Nairobi.
Police said constable Emanuel Mutwiri was among ten people killed in separate accidents in the country on Monday, police said.
Police said he was driving towards Uthiru at night when he lost control of his car and hit a barrier. The car then overturned trapping him therein.
He was driving his four-wheel-drive car when the accident happened.
Police said he had been on duty and was driving home.
Rescuers arrived at the scene and rushed him to Kikuyu Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they are investigating the incident.
Elsewhere, an auditor at the National Hospital Insurance Fund was killed in an accident along Lang'ata Road.
The accident happened when Kimulwon Chesaina’s Mercedes Benz car overturned after he lost control of the vehicle on Monday midnight.
Witnesses said the 48-year-old was speeding, when he lost control, flew over a trench, and rolled in the opposite direction.
The car was badly damaged and trapped him therein where he was removed unresponsive.
He was alone at the time of the accident, police and witnesses said. His colleagues described him as a charming man.
The other accidents were reported in Manga, Nyamira, Tigoni, Thika Road in Nairobi, Eldama Ravine, Gachoka in Embu, Nakuru Town and Hindi in Lamu.
Police said the accidents are under investigation. Preliminary findings have since blamed speeding for some of the accidents.
Up to 20 victims are nursing wounds following the accidents that happened on Monday alone.
Cases of fatal accidents have been on the rise in a series amid calls to tame the trend.
More than 2,300 people have so far been killed in accidents in the country in the past six months.
Officials say most of the accidents are blamed on driver’s errors.
