Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has joined the fray in dismissing opinion polls as fake and manipulated.

In a statement on Monday, the Maendeleo Chapchap party leader claimed the polls have been doctored to sway public opinion in favour of Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

"What we are witnessing is a campaign to create a perception that Raila is ahead so as to soften the ground to allow for rejection of the elections by Azimio and to force formation of a coalition government," Mutua said.

"I therefore find the current opinion polls not only inaccurate, doctored, laughable but a desperate attempt at swaying the public." he added.

His remarks mirrored similar sentiments by Kenya Kwanza leader and UDA presidential candidate William Ruto.

"We have defeated these people in everything...manifesto, agenda and campaigns. They are only left with fake opinion polls," Ruto said.

He spoke during a rally at Naitiri in Tongaren constituency, Bungoma county.

Mutua echoed his sentiments saying leaked intelligent show that the Azimio camp are losing.

The sentiments followed the release of latest survey by Tifa research firm which indicated that Raila was leading the presidential race with 42 per cent approval rating against Ruto's 39 per cent.

Mutua said Azimio's interference in IEBC's mandate was sufficient proof that the outfit knows it would the elections and was setting the stage to reject the results after the August 9 polls.

"It is clear from the way Azimio team members are attacking the IEBC and complaining of the election process that they know they are doing badly," he said.

The MCC leader said it was absurd for Azimio to make threats even with the full support of the national government.

"They (Azimio) know, Kenya Kwanza and Ruto are currently set to take over, not only State House but majority of seats in Parliament and County Assemblies," he said.

The governor said Kenya Kwanza has three pollsters who conduct daily village and weekly comprehensive polls.

"We know from our data that we are ahead and anticipate to win the election at or nearly 60 per cent of the vote," he said.

He said Ruto has managed to lock votes in Mt Kenya, Central and Rift Valley regions with the help of ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and governors Amason Kingi (Kilifi) and Salim Mvurya (Kwale).
