Kenya records 249 new Covid cases

One patient has succumbed to the disease.

Kenya on Thursday recorded 249 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 2,118 tested in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate is now at 11.8 per cent.

Health cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe in a statement said 227 are Kenyans while 22 are foreigners.

He said 125 are males and 124 are females.

The youngest is a five-month old while the oldest is 90 years old.

The total confirmed positive cases  are now 335,341 and cumulative tests at 3,774,973 cases.

He said Nairobi accounted for 75 cases, Siaya 29, Kitui 24, Kericho and Kiambu 17, Nyeri 14, Kilifi and Nakuru 11 each, Garissa nine, Meru 6, Busia and Kajiado five each, Kisumu and Nyandarua four cases each, Murang'a and  Uasin Gishu three.

He added that Kakamega and Laikipia had two cases each, Mombasa and Tana River two cases each, Homabay, Kirinyaga, Kwale and Trans Nzoia had  one case each.

"Today 852 patients have recovered from the disease, 815 from Home Based and Isolation Care Program while 37 are from various health facilities countrywide," Kagwe said.

"This pushes the total recoveries to 326, 799 of whom 273, 491 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care Program, while 53, 308 are from various health facilities countrywide,"

He said one patient has succumbed to the disease which is a late death reported after conducting facility record audits in June 2022, therefore pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,660.

"There are 155 patients currently admitted in our health facilities, while 2,727 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Kagwe said as of July 6 18,930,593 vaccines have been administered across the country.

The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 18,285 while the total number of  people fully vaccinated is 9,206.

He said the proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 32.0 per cent.

The government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27, 246,033.
