One person has died and another is nursing serious injuries after they were electrocuted on Monday in Kisauni, Mombasa.

The two got into contact with a live clothesline.

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company, in a statement, regretted the unfortunate incident attributing it to strong winds experienced in the area.

KPLC said a preliminary investigation indicates that the clothesline was energised after an electric pole fell on the roof of a neighbouring house to which the line was connected.

"Upon receiving the emergency call, a technical team was immediately deployed to the site to isolate and de-energise the affected power line," part of the statement released on Tuesday read.

KPLC said it will still carry out detailed investigations which will be forwarded to the police and other investigative authorities who are also conducting a parallel probe into the incident.

"We are in touch with the bereaved family and would like to assure them and members of the Montana area that this matter will be full investigated to inform the next course of action," KPLC said.

In May, Kwale residents had called on Kenya Power to conduct surveys and replace all the worn-out electricity poles in the region.

The residents said it would stabilise the electricity supply and prevent danger as heavy rains and strong winds are expected in the region.

They complained that most wooden electricity poles are in poor condition, risking the lives of those living in surrounding areas.
