A video has surfaced of ODM governor candidate Moitalel ole Kenta campaigning for his party leader's opponent William Ruto.
In the video that has since gone viral, Kenta who is seeking the Narok governor seat while addressing a group said it was okay if they voted for Ruto as president as long as they vote him in as governor.
“Elect me as the governor and I will have no problem with you voting for Ruto. I am in the ODM party and I would advise you to vote for your candidate Ruto. I'm not seeking the presidency,” he said in the video seen by the Star.
His remarks seemed to have excited supporters of the DP who widely shared the video on social media.
However, according to ODM director of communications Philip Etale, Kenta was being tactical in his vote-hunting mission.
He said the ODM governor candidate was addressing the Kipsigis community in Emmuria Dikirr constituency, Narok county.
The Kipsigis community are perceived to be supporters of DP Ruto's bid.
Etale insisted that the Maasai have always supported the Azimio la Umoja candidate and are still strongly behind his candidature.
“The Maasai community has always supported Raila and I know they will overwhelmingly turn out to vote for Azimio in the coming elections,” he tweeted.
Ole Kenta is currently the Narok North MP and is keen to succeed Governor Samuel Ole Tunai as the second governor of Narok.
Tunai is, however, eyeing the county's senatorial seat.
