ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna would win the Nairobi senatorial race if elections were held today, an opinion poll by Tifa Research shows.

The study said Sifuna had an approval rating of 27 per cent compared to his closest rival, UDA’s Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, who scored nine per cent.

“However with nearly two-thirds of Nairobians undecided about this race (or prepared to vote for anyone at all) 64 per cent, it is far too early to know what the eventual outcome will be,” the survey said.

The poll noted that Sifuna’s approval rating climbed from 19 per cent to 27 per cent in June while that of Wanjiru rose from six to nine per cent during the same period.

Nominated MP Maina Kamanda had an approval rating of one per cent in May, which went down to zero in June.

In May, 73 per cent of the respondents were undecided but the figure went down by nine per cent to 64 in June.

Data for the survey was collected through a telephonic methodology on June 20

A total of 632 respondents (registered voters) drawn from all the 17 constituencies were interviewed.

The survey’s margin of error was plus or minus 3.8 per cent.
