Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui now says there is a looming mass exodus of Mt Kenya leaders from Deputy President William Ruto's camp in the near future.
Governor Lee, who is backing Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance Presidential candidate Raila Odinga for the top seat, said many leaders who are ardent supporters of the DP are shifting camp slowly.
He divulged that the Kenya Kwanza camp led by the DP is experiencing the toughest time yet in its bid to clinch the presidency in the August 9 polls.
This, he said, will culminate in the mass exodus of the Mt Kenya leaders.
"To our brothers in the Mt Kenya region, the next few weeks will surprise many. After many years of bravado and chest thumbing, the ship is experiencing serious turbulence," he said in a statement on Facebook on Saturday.
"Politics being a game of interest and personal survival, a mass exodus by political actors to align with these beacons is expected."
In an apparent swipe at the UDA party's dominance in the Mt Kenya region, Governor Lee said the party's perceived prowess in the region is dwindling.
He noted that the DP's camp will have themselves to blame for their looming blow saying they exposed themselves badly.
"The yellow undercoat is gradually being replaced with the final coat of blue and red. This is not by default but by design," he added.
"If you expose your final coat too early, it will be soiled before the D day. The end of illusion politics is coming."
Governor Lee who is facing stiff competition from Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika in his bid for a second term cautioned politicians against ignoring voters,
He said they will be in for a rude shock ahead of the polls if they will keep maintaining their hardline stance contrary to the expectations of the voters.
"For politicians, you are on your own, the herd mentality is a false comfort that will evaporate way before the election day," he warned.
"The voter is the supreme authority and she has unique ways of asserting herself. Even when she acts dumb, always remember it is just a show."
