The 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup is taking place in Qatar this winter. Although we still don’t have the names of all 32 nations who will participate in the tournament, we do know which teams are the biggest favourites to lift the most prestigious football trophy on the planet. Adam Sainz, Football Betting Expert at AfricaCasinoHub.com summarized bookmakers’ favourites for the World Cup title this year.

Who are the contenders to win the 2020 World Cup?

Brazil

The only team that participated in every edition of the World Cup since its inaugural year in 1930, Brazil have five titles and as usual, are one of the biggest favourites to win again. This scary team consists of such superstars as Neymar, Vinicius Junior, and Alisson, among others and the entire world expects them to go all the way this year.

Odds: 5.50

England

The Three Lions finished 4th four years ago in Russia, which is their second-best result at the World Cup since 1966 and their only WC victory. England were 2nd at the most recent EURO and maybe this is the year when they are ready to at least win a bronze medal in the World Cup. They certainly have players capable of doing that.

Odds: 6.50

France

The two-time winners and current holders, France, will deploy a star-studded squad in Qatar but will face the tough task of defending a title they won by beating Croatia in Russia. Didier Deschamps knows how to win titles, and with Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema in the attack, the opponents should be scared.

Odds: 6.50

Spain

La Furia Roja are not a dominant force they were late in the first decade of this century and in the early 2010s, but are always one of the favourites at big tournaments. Following a disappointing campaign in Russia, Spain are desperate to make amends in Qatar and at least make it to the semi-finals. The chance of their golden generation didn’t work out very well for the Spaniards, but they are still a very respectful team made of numerous stars.

Odds: 9.00

Argentina

Lionel Messi has the last chance to win the World Cup after winning his first Copa America in 2021. His teammates will surely give all they have to help the little wizard get his gold medal at WC, but the truth is, there are stronger teams in this tournament, so Argentina will have a mountain to climb to even make it to the final. Their defence is a problem, even though they conceded only eight goals in 17 qualifying matches. The World Cup is something else and the competition is fiercer.

Odds: 10.00

Germany

"Football is a simple game: 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and, in the end, the Germans always win," the famous quote of Gary Lineker. This is quite accurate, to be honest, and Germany are always among the favourites at World Cups. The four-time world champions were eliminated in the group stage four years ago, which is their worst-ever display in the World Cup. This time around, they will be looking to regain the respect they deserve.

Odds: 12.00

The dark horses of this World Cup are Belgium (13.00), with their golden generation and last chance to finally win a trophy at a big tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo will try to win it in his last World Cup with Portugal (13.00), while the Netherlands (13.00), who dominated in the qualification phase, are also among the favourites out of the shadows.

In the end, we will have to agree with the bookmakers and pick Brazil as the biggest favourite to win FIFA 2022 World Cup.
