Director of Criminal investigations George Kinoti has addressed the recent verbal attacks on police officers.

Kinoti said the fact that most of them might not have the highest academic qualifications does not mean they are not worthy.

He was speaking during the launch of training for 20 million citizens on digital skills.

"Instead of celebrating our emotional intelligence, you make fun of our academics," Kinoti said.

He referred to armed police officers providing security, saying they control their emotions not to react to everything.

"When you provoke that police officer taking care of you who is ready to take his blood, with a fully loaded gun, then when all factors remain constant, he's most likely to react," he said.

These concerns have been raised after several politicians seemed to demean police officers.

In May, Kakamega county Senator Cleophas Malala was speaking at a rally where he said that police work does not need highly qualified personnel owing to the nature of their job.

Kinoti said if the police officer at the event would have reiterated, then there would not have been any case for him to answer.

"He may not be held criminally responsible but as police officers, you need to congratulate us because we are emotionally strong," he added.

Malala was heard belittling the police service, saying their job should be a preserve of people who dropped out of school.
