The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched self-service mobile application that will offer key services to millions of its clients in the transport sector.

In a press statement on Friday, NTSA said the aim of the platform is to enable Kenyans to verify the validity of driving licences among other key services.

“The re-launch has seen an expansion of the NTSA App's capabilities from supporting the public transport sector to accommodating verification of Boda Boda certificates and driving school instructor licences,” the statement read.

Other key features on the App include Complaint Management, TIMS Enquiries and access to Information.

The re-launch is part of the Authority's reform agenda.

“The rollout comes at a time when the Authority has re-engineered its operational processes, revamped the Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS), synchronized all services and provided access through its website, all in a bid to provide quality services to the public,” the statement read.

To verify details of Matatu Sacco/Company, Kenyans will use the information provided on the body of the vehicle.

In the case of motor Vehicle Inspection status, Kenyans and enforcement officers will use the registration number of the vehicle to know whether it has been inspected in line with the law.

The App provides the status of the inspection (valid or expired), the inspection expiry date and the NTSA centre where the vehicle was inspected.

For the case of Road Service Licence(RSL), Kenyans and enforcement officers will use the registration numbers of the vehicle to query whether or not it is licensed to operate as a PSV and permitted to carry passengers.

Details in the App include; licensed routes, the Sacco/Company official's contact information that the public can use to report any incidences upon boarding the vehicle and the RSL expiry date.

Enforcement officers will use the driver's national identification number to verify if he/she is licensed to operate the PSV.

Long-distance PSVs can also be verified if they are permitted to operate at night.

The App can scan the QR code on the E-Sticker provided by the Authority.

Drivers' details will be verified using the national identification number.

The details provided by the App include; the status of the DL (valid or expired), the expiry date and the DL categories.

Upon successful completion of driving training, drivers will be required to apply and download an interim driving licence from the NTSA website.

Thereafter, the driver will be expected to apply for the Smart Driving licence.

For Boda Boda riders, upon the completion of the registration process, riders have been advised to download the Boda Boda registration certificate from the portal on the NTSA website.

The public and enforcement officers will verify the details using the national identification number of the rider.

The Instructor licence, driving school operators and instructors can also verify the validity status of the licences by providing the national identification number.
