Uganda's Politician and Human Rights Activities Kizza Besigye has congratulated Azimio la Umoja for nominating Martha Karua as his Presidential Running Mate.
Besigye described the moment as historic in Kenya and the East African region.
"Congratulations @RailaOdinga and @MarthaKarua on forming a historic team for a historic moment in Kenya and our region! Truly an “Azimio la Umoja” moment," he said in a tweet.

If the Azimio la Umoja team wins the August 9 elections, Martha Karua will be Kenya's first female Deputy President.
While unveiling her as his running mate, Raila described Karua as an exceptional leader with high principles.
"At the age of 24, this woman was appointed a magistrate, years later she became the youngest woman MP, she led a team of lawyers to represent me when I was in detention, this woman is a fighter and not a quitter. History is calling us to close the gender gap. As Azimio, we have today taken a key step towards that end," Raila said
During her acceptance speech, Karua noted that the move was indeed a big win for the women of Kenya.
"This is a moment for the women of Kenya. It is a moment my Late friend Wangari Maathai would have been proud of. This is the moment to usher more of us into the national and county leadership."
The Narc Kenya leader stated that she is committed to working with Raila in delivering a prosperous Kenya.
"I am deeply honoured by the decision to be nominated as the deputy presidential candidate. It is a personal journey but also a national journey. Today, I recommit myself to fully support his Excellency Raila in his eternal pursuit of social justice and dignity for all."
Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi also congratulated Martha Karua, putting aside their political views.
"Congratulations Mum, Martha Karua, we hold different views but we remain a mother and her son. Barikiwa."
Activist Boniface Mwangi also expressed his excitement.
"I was at the barbershop when Martha Karua was announced as the Deputy President nominee, and l screamed with so much joy. We had to go to her house to congratulate her. Martha Karua is the game-changer in this election."
