Machakos governor aspirant Nzioka Waita has trashed six piece voting pattern as advocated by some politicians across the county.

Waita says it will allow those who cannot deliver to hide behind parties.

He said the six piece politics is outdated, and there is need to allow voters to exercise their constitutional rights by electing leaders of their choice in the August 9 general election.

Waita said it was time to elect leaders with content, not those who hide their incompetence behind party colours.

“Thank you Makadara - Athi River Township for turning out in large numbers to support our agenda for Machakos. Thank you for rejecting the gospel of six piece voting. It’s time to elect leaders with content,” Waita said in a tweet on Sunday.

The Chama Cha Uzalendo leader also held a rally in Athi River, Mavoko constituency.

“Six piece politics is outdated, our 5th President is Raila Odinga. He is in ODM and I am in CCU, but both of us are in Azimio,” Waita said.

He was accompanied by his running mate, Machakos Speaker Florence Mwangangi, who condemned the political zoning proposal.

“All Kenyans have the right to vote leaders of their choice, no zoning. The constitution has given you the right to vote leaders of your choice, don’t be forced to elect a leader against your will. Waita, myself and CCU party are in Azimio,” Mwangangi said.

Waita urged the residents to elect him as the second Machakos governor to take over from Governor Alfred Mutua of Maendeleo Chap Chap, who is serving his final term in office.

“We won’t accept six piece. I humble myself as I request for your votes. Six piece won’t help you. What will help you is electing leaders who have intention of working for the residents, protect public resources and property. Those who will bring development as they work together with other leaders despite their political parties,” Waita said.

The former State House chief of staff shunned tribal politics, saying Machakos county was cosmopolitan.

“My age doesn’t allow me to talk issues of tribalism and support those who don’t respect others tribes,” Waita said.

He said all residents of Machakos were in the county by right.

“We will protect and ensure everybody’s rights are protected including property and life. It doesn’t matter where you have come from.”

He said his government will establish several development projects and programmes such as Kazi Mashinani for youths which will see young people getting absorbed in various projects like roads, ECD classrooms, and hospitals to earn livelihoods.

Waita said his government will also allocate Women Empowerment and Elderly funds to support women and senior citizens alike.
