The Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has defended his move to adjourn the proceedings at the National  Assembly on Thursday.

In his statement on Tuesday, he said politicians are currently overwhelmed with the political atmosphere and hence they are discussing irrelevant issues in the Parliament.

“We are in that exciting moment of politics, and what happened in Parliament was just people trying to get some Bonga points here and there,” Muturi said.

"We spent too much time discussing a non-issue."

Further, he said that he followed the procedures of the House.

“Even when we resume, we will revisit the matter. I may not be at liberty to discuss some of these processes,” the Speaker said.

On Thursday, the proceedings at the National Assembly turned chaotic when the Wajir Woman Rep Fatuma Gedi was tabling evidence linking Deputy President William Ruto to land grabbing.

The afternoon session was largely dominated by shouting and booing as the woman MP attempted to table her evidence.

It was during the session when the Embakasi East MP Babu Owino allegedly uttered some words deemed to be unparliamentary.

The Speaker ordered the sergeants at arms to eject the MP from the Chambers after the slur.

"Order members, order, why are you bringing all this drama," Muturi shouted.

Despite the Speakers insistence that the youthful MP leaves the House, Owino refused.

Attempts by the Sergeants at arms to forcefully eject the MP failed to bear fruits after some MPs prevented them from affecting the order.

"We will deal with it at the appropriate time. My order for Hon Babu Owino to leave the chamber has not been vacated," Muturi said.

The Speaker said according to Standing Order 112, he had no option but to adjourn the session.
