Bishop Wanjiru steps down for Sakaja, to go for Senate seat

Sakaja will fly the UDA party ticket in Nairobi governor race.

Bishop Margaret Wanjiru of Jesus is Alive Ministry has announced that she has stepped down in her bid for the Nairobi Governor seat.

In a meeting held at Deputy President William Ruto's Official Karen Residence on Saturday, Wanjiru announced that she quit the race for Senator Johnstone Sakaja who will now fly the UDA party ticket.

Wanjiru will now go for the senate set.

"In a coalition, there come challenges. It comes a time when one must give and take. That is exactly what has taken place here," Wanjiru said.

In his remarks, Sakaja lauded Wanjiru for the sacrifice that saw his chances of becoming the next City governor boosted.

The second Nairobi senator further appealed to his supporters to support Bishop Wanjiru for the senate seat given that they are now members of one team.

"The most important thing now is to keep in mind that we are one team. I want to urge my supporters to now rally behind Bishop Wanjiru, who was sacrificed so much for us, and back her senate bid."

Karen Nyamu also stepped down in her senatorial bid and will now support Bishop Wanjiru's senate bid.

She also used the opportunity to ask Nairobi residents to rally behind Kenyan Kwanza Alliance presidential aspirant William Ruto.

Ruto said that the party honour's Wanjiru for her magnanimity, sacrifice and grace. This win-win spirit will help Nairobi regain its glory.

"Kenya Kwanza is elated that it will be fielding Johnson Sakaja as its Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate. Senator Sakaja is a leader who measures up to the challenges facing our City. Bishop Wanjiru defers her gubernatorial bid and will now go for the senate seat," Ruto said.

Other alliance leaders Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi attended the meeting.
