“Today I joined Daughters of Raila in a march calling for peaceful elections. What happened in Iten should never have happened to any candidate. We will continue to preach peace before, during and after elections,” Nairobi Women rep Esther Passaris said via a tweet.

Passaris and other women leaders in Azimio la Umoja coalition were among the protesters.

Raila's day in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Friday ended abruptly following an incident that happened in Iten town.

A group of rowdy youths heckled his rally in Iten, denying him an opportunity to sell his manifesto to residents.

The incident forced him to cancel his campaign and head to Uasin Gishu for the burial of Mzee Jackson Kibor.

However, he also faced a hostile reception there as a group of youths pelted stones at his chopper, damaging the screen.

A number of leaders from the region have condemned the incident, calling upon the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to investigate the matter and have the culprits arrested.
