The ODM party is in mourning following the death of one of its board of trustees, Jotham Nyikuri.

Party leader Raila Odinga announced the death on Monday morning in a statement.

"This morning, I lost a strong pillar in our party Mr Jotham Nyikuri, who is a member of the Board of Trustees of ODM. Mr Nyikuri has stood with the party in bad and good times and was its pillar, particularly in Trans Nzoia," Raila said.

"My condolences go out to his family, friends and ODM fraternity," Raila added.

Raila did not, however, reveal the cause of death.

The death announcement was contained in the same condolence message following the death of Kenya's Head of Mission in Qatar, Paddy Ahenda.

Ahenda's family said the former Kasipul Kabondo Member of Parliament succumbed to heatstroke and passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital in Doha.

Nyukuri once served as the personal assistant to the late renowned Ford Kenya politician Masinde Muliro.
