Three die after a boat capsizes in lake Turkana

 Three people have died after a boat capsized in Lake Turkana after they were overpowered by strong winds.

Turkana County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the incident.

"Weather is still harsh, winds blowing at a high speed and thus the waves become stronger for those sailing through the lake," he said.

Ndanyi said the boat capsized with four people on board where one survived and three drowned.

He said two bodies have been retrieved and one person is still missing.

"We have advised all users to avoid sailing. We want to monitor the situation with other relevant authorities," he said.

Peter Lotieng, Area chief of Kalokol said the incident occurred on Wednesday at around 11 am.

He said one person cheated death after he managed to swim when the boat capsized.

Lotieng said a 15-year-old student, expecting the KCPE results next week, is among those who drowned.
